Cupid’s Cheesball

Cheeseballs are wonderful appetizers, a great finger food to take to a party, or a fun treat to enjoy at home.  This sweet, pretty-in-pink version is just the thing for Valentine’s Day!

The ingredients: cream cheese, butter, vanilla, powdered sugar, brown sugar, food coloring, chocolate chips, sprinkles, and chopped pecans (optional).

Beat together the cream cheese, butter, and vanilla.  Any recipe that starts out with those three ingredients has to be good.  And bad….for my waistline.

Cupid's Cheeseball from Darling Doodles

Add a few drops of food coloring and mix until the cream cheese and butter mixture is a light pink.

Once you get your desired color mix in the sugar and stir in the chocolate chips.  Cover the bowl with saran wrap and refrigerate for 2 hours.

Lay out a piece of saran wrap on the counter and spoon the mixture into the middle.  Form into a ball and place back in the fridge for another hour.

Just before serving remove the saran wrap and roll the ball in sprinkles or chopped pecans.   Or just sprinkle them on top if you are worried about messing up the shape of hte ball.

This sweet treat is delicious with graham crackers, vanilla wafers, pretzels, or fruit.  I didn’t think of this until after but it would also be really cute to form the cheeseball into a heart shape.  Next time!

February Visiting Teaching- LDS

February’s message is called Converted Unto the Lord and reinforces the duty that all members, and especially Visiting Teachers, have to reach out to new members of the church.  One of my favorite things about the VT program is that when done correctly and with love it is a “built in friendship” program.  Everyone has someone to turn to, to lean on, to care about and who cares about them.  It is comforting to know that you are never alone.  Share this month’s message with your sisters by taking this handout with you on your visit or sending it in the mail with a note from you.

A Little Late…Starting the Year off Organized

I had every intention of posting this right after the New Year but while my husband and I were on vacation over the holidays we both got hit by a major cold/flu bug.  It completely knocked us out and derailed my plans to start off January in full organizational mode.  Cleaning was the last thing on my mind while I was sick.  And then life just kind of got in the way and we were super busy.  But I got better, found some time, and you know what?  It doesn’t really matter because anytime is good time to get organized.  And since it is the second to last day of January I can still technically claim this as my starting the new year off right post.

I created 4 different cleaning lists to tackle 4 major areas of my home.  My plan is to take one week to do each list and by the end of the next month my house will be in tip top shape.  I’m a pretty organized person to start with but every home can benefit from a little deep cleaning now and then.  And while these lists won’t cover every single area they sure will take care of a lot.

Getting Organized in the New Year Paper Getting Organized in the New Year Clean Getting Organized in the New Year Closets Getting Organized in the New Year KitchenWhen it comes to organizing my favorite tip is to use cute bins and baskets.  I have so many different bins around my home to hold everything from blankets and toiletries to craft supplies and books.  Staying organized is much more fun and enjoyable, not to mention easy, when your container is stylish and looks good.   Because of my slight addiction to cute storage bins I was really excited when Shaggy Baggy sent me some Bucket Totes to try.  Shaggy Baggy creates and sells Eco-friendly totes, buckets, and handbags and they all darling and adorable.  Here are the ones I received:

Now I don’t know if these are made to be reversible, but I actually really loved the stripe pattern on the inside so I turned them inside-out and I’ve been using them that way.  You can’t even tell a difference!

I told Sam that it is probably a little silly how excited I am over the mini bucket but honestly it provided the perfect solution to a tiny problem I had.  Because I work from home I spend a lot of time sitting on my couch or at my desk.  And when I sit down to have a major work session I always like to have a few items nearby, but I hate the look of clutter on my side table!  Like I said, it is a little thing but I’ve been using the mini bucket to hold my items and it is perfect.

I can keep some lotion, chapstick, Kleenexes, my cell phone, some gum, etc., and it doesn’t look messy.  I can pick it up and take it with me if I move from the couch to the desk and if company is coming over it is easy to tuck it away.

Even though these are made of fabric they are really sturdy and well made.  I’ve been tossing my cell phone into the bucket for the last couple of weeks and it hasn’t fallen over once.  They hold their shape really well too.  The larger bucket found a home in my craft room and is being put to good use holding scrap fabrics.

I highly recommend stopping by Shaggy Baggy’s Etsy Shop and checking it out.  Especially since Sharon from Shaggy Baggy is offering all Darling Doodles readers 20% off everything in her shop!  How awesome is that!? Just use code DOODLES20 to receive your discount.  This code is good until February 15th!

Mug & Candy Valentine

If you’ve got some dame or fella that you think is mighty spiffy then these here Valentine’s will be the cat’s meow, see?  Tell them you like their filthy mug and they’ll be carrying a torch for you too, see?  (It’s late right now and my brain is half asleep.  I have no apologies.)

Mug and Candy Valentines Printables

I found these cute mugs at the Dollar Tree and filled them up with some Baby Ruths.  I know these are silly, but honestly…if you can’t be cheesy and goofy on Valentine’s Day, when can you?!  I just want to talk like a gangster from the 1920’s whenever I see this tag.  Much to my husband’s delight.

I also made some tags that can be used with any candy, so you can take your pick.  Of course, hugs and kisses are always a good choice for this little gift.

With A Cherry On Top

I’m stuck. Completely stuck.  I have been sitting at my computer for the last hour trying to think of something cute and funny to say to introduce these gift tags.  But I’ve got nothing!  Seriously, I’ve written and erased half a dozen different paragraphs.   The only thing coming to mind is “Hey, I made these cherry gift tags.  They’re cute and you can download them.  Enjoy.”   Do you think J.K. Rowling ever wanted to just sit down and write, “Harry said some spells.  And then he won.” ?  Probably not.  That’s the reason she’s a billionaire and I’m sharing cherry gift tags.  :)

Anyway, they are cute.  And they can be used with lots of different things.  Like chocolate covered cherries.  Yum!

Or for a really quick and inexpensive valentine they can go on some cherry chapstick.

How about cherry soda?  If your Valentine’s favorite brand has a cherry flavor then this is perfect!

And of course you can combine all your cherry themed items into one gift basket that is cute, fun, and one your Valentine is sure to love!

Dinner for Two

Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to plan a romantic date night and it doesn’t have to be complicated or super elaborate.  In fact, just a little bit of planning is all you need to create a romantic dinner for two right in your own home!

_DSC1222

Chances are you are going to be cooking dinner sometime around Valentine’s Day anyway, right?  (Or at the very least ordering some delivery!)  So why not take a few extra steps to make that ordinary dinner, extraordinary.  Surprise your special someone with an invitation letting them know to expect a little extra “somethin somethin” when they get home that night.

Romantic Dinner Date for Two

Ladies…make sure to give them all the details they’ll need.  Men aren’t known for reading in between the lines.  :)

Set up your own little cafe by creating a menu for the evening.  You can make a favorite meal, try something new, or even order in from your favorite restaurant if you want to take away any stress.

Decorate the table!  Here’s a tip:  Just about everything on this table can be found at the Dollar Tree.  The candles and candlesticks, rose petals, hearts, red glasses, flowers, etc.  Of course you don’t have to buy anything either.  Just setting out your nice plates on a pretty tablecloth would do the trick.

What will really set the mood….candlelight!  Turn those lights down low for a romantic, intimate atmosphere.

Romantic Dinner Date for Two

One thing to note- While this is a Valentine’s Day post, you’ll note that I didn’t make the printables super “Valentine-y.”  That is because you can do this fun date any day of the year!  And you should!  Romance should be an every day thing!
